International Solidarity Vigil for Scott Olsen and OccupyOakland

Candle Light Vigil 7PM Hill Park Helena

There will be a peaceful vigil held Thursday, Oct. 27 for Scott Olsen, Marine veteran with two tours in Iraq and member of Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW). Scott was critically injured by a police projectile at Occupy Oakland on October 25.

The Oakland vigil will be held during the General Assembly of Occupy Oakland at 14th St and Broadway.

A call has gone out to the Occupy Movement for Occupy encampments across the nation and world to hold SOLIDARITY VIGILS at this time (7pm in their respective time zones).

If you are holding a rally in your city, please let IVAW know about it by emailing details to media@ivaw.org.

Donations for Scott’s medical costs & his family’s travel expenses can be made at IVAW.org with ‘Scott Olsen’ under Special Projects.

Scott Olsen is seen here on the right moments before he suffered his head injury and those who rushed to his aid were assaulted by police

Occupy our Capitol October 29th, 2011

O-29
Attention Helena and all Occupiers in the state of Montana!
After some coordination with the City of Helena, we have a final proposed framework for this Saturday’s Occupy the Capitol event.

Saturday October 29 2011

12:00 p.m. Gather in Hill Park, on the corner of Neil and Benton Aves. Sign making will be available in preparation for the march. There will be plenty of time to demonstrate on the corner if people wish. OccupyHelena will not be coordinating snacks and drinks for this time, but of course anyone is welcome to bring and/or share as they please.

1:00 p.m. Nonviolence/Civil Disobedience Workshop will be offered in the park for those who would like to attend. It is the consensus of the General Assembly in OccupyHelena that we are a nonviolent movement.

1:30 p.m. March to the Capitol begins by gathering in front of Federal Reserve building, on the North side of Neil Ave, at the intersection with Fuller Ave.  We will be following a route that was suggested to us by Mark Lehrman, former Helena police officer and current liaison between the City of Helena and the Police Department. From the Federal Reserve building, we walk one block East on Neil Ave. We will turn right (south) onto Last Chance Gulch. We will continue on Last Chance Gulch for three blocks, passing in front of Wells Fargo and U.S. Bank. From there, we will turn left (east) onto 6th Ave and proceed directly to the Capitol Steps(north side).

2:30 p.m. Public Forum on the Capitol Steps
Check-in/Reports from Occupations around the state
Open Forum with a time limit per speaker in order to maximize the number of people who would like the opportunity to speak.
(Please note that this is not a General Assembly, as was suggested before – the General Assembly has been moved to later in the evening, allowing for this time to be used to hear from all who would like to be heard and/or have questions. Also note that this time will not be inside the Capitol Rotunda, as previously mentioned, but outside on the Capitol Steps.)

4:30 p.m. Head back to Women’s Park (across Fuller Ave from Hill Park – our starting point). Many will walk, but shuttling will be available. Details available at Hill Park and the Capitol Building on Saturday.

5:00 p.m. OccupyMontana General Assembly in Women’s Park/Soup and Bread Supper
OccupyHelena is gathering and preparing food, but again, we encourage any and all to bring anything they feel inclined to. Please, no alcohol! This is one of the only stipulations made to us by the City of Helena for the use of Women’s Park.

7:30 – 10:00 p.m. Open Time – for entertainment, gathering, brainstorming, relationship building etc. Bring instruments for a Jam Session. The suggestion of viewing a movie has been made.
